Botox® has been a popular cosmetic treatment for years, with millions of people worldwide using it to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. At Capital Laser & Skin Care, Botox® is one of several injectable treatments our experienced dermatologists offer to rejuvenate your appearance.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is an injectable made from botulinum toxin type A used to smooth out dynamic wrinkles. When injected into the skin, this neurotoxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles and prevents the repetitive movements that cause wrinkles to form. The procedure is quick and easy, typically taking as little as 15 minutes.

Neuromodulators like Botox® can effectively reduce many fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. Botox® is ideal for treating:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet
  • Neck bands

Are There Side Effects After Botox®?

Like any medical procedure, there are potential side effects associated with Botox® injections. The most common side effects include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These side effects should subside on their own within a few days of treatment.

Our dermatologists at Capital Laser administer injectables like Botox® carefully and skillfully to minimize side effects. As part of our Gentle-Injectables Promise, we provide a complimentary laser treatment to reduce bruising if it should occur.

You’ll be able to resume your regular activities immediately after Botox® injections. Avoid rubbing the treatment area or bending over for several hours afterward, however, as this could cause the injections to move and affect your results.

When Will I See Results From Botox®?

Most patients begin to see the results of their Botox® injections within a few days of treatment. However, the full effects can take up to two weeks to become visible.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

The effects of Botox® typically last between three and four months. The muscles will gradually regain their full function, and wrinkles may start to reappear. However, with regular treatments, many patients find that the effects of Botox® last longer over time.

Some patients find that other brands of neuromodulators work better for them, especially if Botox® has stopped producing optimal results. Capital Laser offers other botulinum toxin injections, such as Dysport® Xeomin® and Daxxify® and we’ll help you find the best option for you.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

If you’re bothered by the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines on your face, Botox® may be a good option for you. During your consultation, one of our dermatologists will help determine if you’re a good candidate for the treatment. People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of neuromuscular disorders may not be eligible for Botox®.

I am 100% thrilled with the results by Dr. Tania Peters and the team at Capital Laser & Skin Care for my wrinkles and age spots. She also does thorough skin exams to keep a close eye on my multitude of moles.
