Clear Skin is Possible With a Pulsed Dye Laser

It can be frustrating over time to have to wear more and more facial makeup to cover ruddy, blotchy skin. Facial redness, broken capillaries, and splotchy skin are some of the most common skin concerns we discuss at Capital Laser & Skin Care. There are many causes of facial redness including excessive sun exposure, genetics, and inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea that lead to dilated blood vessels. Unfortunately, many of these skin conditions get progressively worse over time if action is not taken to reduce the dilation of the vessels.

The Pulsed Dye Laser has been used since the 1980’s to effectively treat facial redness and port wine stain birthmarks. The VBeam® Perfecta is the most advanced form of the Pulsed Dye Laser available today. It can be used to treat broken capillaries, rosacea, red scars, red birthmarks, leg veins, redness on the neck and chest, and cherry angiomas (bright red bumps on the body).

VBeam Treatments at Capital Laser & Skin Care

The VBeam delivers an intense, but gentle burst of light to the targeted areas of the skin to reduce the redness. Within the skin, the bright light is absorbed by the blood vessels to fade them over time. Most patients report a sensation similar to a mild sunburn after the treatment which is soothed by using an ice pack. Patients usually experience redness immediately after treatment that subsides within hours. Makeup can be applied immediately. For some, swelling can occur the next day. Rarely, a bruise can develop that typically resolves within three to five days. The number of treatments recommended by the board-certified dermatologists at Capital Laser & Skin Care will depend on the extent of the skin condition being treated. For rosacea and facial redness, multiple VBeam treatments are usually required for the best results and your physician may recommend regularly scheduled touch-up treatments to maintain the clear appearance of the skin.
