Many men and women come into our office seeking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Most either aren’t quite ready for surgical procedures or would simply like a less invasive treatment to fit their busy lifestyles. If this sounds familiar to you, you might be a good candidate for either laser rejuvenation or injectables to address visible signs of aging.

But, which is best for you? Well, aside from the fact that everyone ages differently, not all wrinkles are the same. Some wrinkles appear on the surface of the skin while others form on deeper layers of tissue. At Capital Laser & Skin Care, our skilled team of cosmetic dermatologists have a variety of solutions to suit your individual needs.

Laser Rejuvenation

Laser treatments work to resurface the topmost layers of damaged skin cells. Although results are not always immediate, you can expect a long-lasting outcome thanks to increased cellular turnover and collagen production. Lasers trigger your body’s natural self-healing cycle and can improve your skin’s overall quality with time.

The procedure might be right for you if you’d like to achieve total facial rejuvenation including fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin laxity, and hyperpigmentation. Laser treatments can require downtime and multiple treatments may be necessary to meet your end-goals.

Injectables for Wrinkle Reduction

When it comes to wrinkle reduction, injectables come in two types; neurotoxins and soft tissue fillers. Each work in completely different ways and are designed for different purposes. Let’s take a closer look below.

Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins, like Botox, are injected at precise depths to temporarily correct dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements. Treatments are quick, easy, and there’s no need for recovery. Over 3-5 days, the neurotoxin starts to relax the muscle by blocking signals from the nerve. Neurotoxins can be used to reduce wrinkles throughout the face but are most often done for deep wrinkles on the upper face.

Botulinum neuromodulator-based injections typically last anywhere from 3-6 months. Because muscle contractions are halted, patients can slow the aging process as well as smoothing lines and wrinkles.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Soft tissue fillers come in a wide range of formulas. Some are more robust for moderate to severe lines around the nose and mouth. Others are thinner and can treat delicate areas like the lips and around the eyes. When dermal fillers are injected, the skin becomes instantly plumped leaving you wrinkle-free. Soft tissue fillers are temporary and do not improve the skin quality.

If you’re looking to instantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles sans downtime, soft tissue fillers may be the solution for you. Treatments can last anywhere from 6-months to 18-months depending on the treatment area and the chosen filler.
