Chemical peels are a popular cosmetic treatment designed to minimize common skin conditions such as acne, discoloration, dull skin, and more. What does a chemical peel do exactly? What a chemical peel does to your skin can depend on what type of treatment fits your skin needs.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a customizable chemical treatment that removes the outer layers of the skin to reveal healthier, rejuvenated skin underneath. They target damaged skin cells to promote the regeneration of new ones, leading to more even-toned, radiant skin layers.

What Does a Chemical Peel Do?

We use four different chemical peels to renew the skin. They are all customizable and target your specific skin concerns. At Capital Laser & Skin Care, we provide a selection of chemical peels that can address a variety of skin concerns. The types of chemical peels range from light, medium, and deep.

Light Peel

A light peel is the least invasive option because it removes the outer layer of the skin. Fine lines and uneven skin texture are more suited for light peels. With less downtime and minimal discomfort, light peels can be ideal for those who have a more busy schedule.

Medium Peel

Medium peels remove both the outer layer of the skin and the middle layer. They treat skin concerns such as wrinkles, scarring, and uneven skin texture that a light peel can’t reach. Downtime is about 5-7 days and includes over-the-counter painkillers to minimize discomfort.

Deep Peel

A deep peel will target the deepest layers of the skin along with the middle and outer layers. These are best for skin issues such as deep scarring and wrinkles. Deep peels can also treat precancerous growths in the skin. The downtime with deep peels takes around two weeks.

Am I a Candidate for Chemical Peels?

The customizability of chemical peels makes it a unique treatment that can suit almost all skin types and conditions. Chemical peels are not recommended for everyone and it is best to consult with one of our board-certified dermatologists to help you determine if you are a good candidate for chemical peels.
