Many people are familiar with red splotches or webs that appear on the face. These broken capillaries, also known as spider veins, occur for various reasons. They cause no harm but can make your skin look blotchy and uneven. We offer several highly effective methods for eliminating these tiny damaged veins.
What Causes Broken Capillaries?
You can develop broken capillaries or spider veins for many reasons. Capillaries are the smallest veins in the body. Those close to the skin can stretch or break, leading to a red appearance. Conditions like rosacea can cause chronic broken capillaries and redness. Fortunately, spider veins and redness respond well to treatment with laser and other light therapies.
How Can You Get Rid of Broken Capillaries?
Broken capillaries will often worsen if not treated. The most effective way to treat them uses light energy that targets the pigments that make them visible. Depending on your needs, we may recommend either of these treatment methods for spider veins, rosacea, and other types of redness.
VBeam® Perfecta
This pulsed dye laser targets red pigments using pulses of laser energy. When this energy makes contact with pigments, it heats them and causes them to break apart. This breaks up the treated capillaries, so they start to fade within days. Most people need several treatment sessions, and you may need maintenance treatments if your spider veins keep reappearing.
Forever Young BBL™
This technology uses a broad range of wavelengths that target many different pigments. Forever Young BBL™ can eliminate redness, sun damage, age spots, and other pigmentation problems. It also stimulates collagen development. Most people need regular maintenance sessions to see lasting results.
What Results Will I See With Broken Capillary Treatment?
You may see some fading of the treated capillaries within a few days of your first treatment. Full results continue to develop even after your last treatment session. You will see clear, even-toned skin with no blotchiness or redness. If new broken capillaries appear, we can treat them to help maintain your results.
Is There Any Downtime With Treatment for Broken Capillaries?
Both treatments have little to no downtime. Both treatments often result in a feeling of heat and redness after your session. This will usually fade within a day or two. You will usually be allowed to resume your usual activities immediately. Avoid sun exposure while your skin recovers.
Am I a Candidate for Broken Capillary Treatment?
Almost anyone makes a good candidate for broken capillary treatment. You can eliminate redness and spider veins in a few sessions. You might not make a good candidate if you have an active skin infection, specific medical conditions or if your skin is tan at the time of treatment.
