What is Kybella®?

How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella® uses deoxycholic acid to break up fat in the double chin area. The body produces this molecule in the digestive tract to help it digest fat. When injected, Kybella® works to break apart the fat cells so the body can remove them. The lymphatic system, which drains fluid from all over the body, will filter the cells away over the course of several weeks.
How Long Does Kybella® Swelling Last?
After Kybella®, most people see some swelling as the fat reacts to the injections. This swelling will go away for most people within one to two weeks. Other post-injection effects can include an uneven or lumpy feeling in the double chin area, redness, and bruising.
What Results Will I See With Kybella®?
You should see results from your Kybella® treatment within about a month. The lymphatic system takes time to filter away the damaged fat cells so you can see your contoured, slender chin and neck. Most people need more than one Kybella® treatment. We recommend one to three treatments, depending on how much fat you want to remove. You will continue to see improvements after each session.
The removed fat cells never come back so that you can maintain your Kybella® results indefinitely. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help keep fat that remains in the area from enlarging.
Is There Any Downtime with Kybella®?
Although you may feel self-conscious about the swelling that often occurs after Kybella®, you will have no restrictions on your activities, and you can return to your regular routine. You should feel recovered from all side effects within a week or two.
Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella®?
If you have submental fat or a double chin, you may be a good candidate for Kybella®. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have Kybella®, and people who have blood clotting problems should discuss this in the consultation.
