Shaving and waxing your body on a regular basis can become tiresome after a while. That’s why many people choose to get laser hair removal. But how does it work?

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal works by inactivating the hair follicles beneath the skin, preventing them from producing strands of hair altogether.

At Capital Laser & Skin Care we offer a variety of laser hair removal treatments. Dr. Shah, Dr. Tanzi or Dr. Peters uses a laser to focus light on unwanted hairs. The energy in the laser beam heats up the pigment in hair (called melanin). With sufficient exposure, the heat energy is transmitted down the shaft of the hair to the follicle where it damages the follicle’s hair-producing machinery. If treatment is successful, the follicle may not be able to produce hair again in the future.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Will I Need?

Laser hair removal is an effective method for removing hair growth in areas long-term. However, a single session is unlikely to result in permanent hair removal. That’s because at any given time, some hair follicles are in a dormant state and not currently producing hair strands. If there is no strand of hair protruding through the skin associated with the follicle, then laser hair removal can’t target it. As a result, the follicle remains viable and may continue to produce hair in the future. Follow-up treatments, therefore, are essential.

Capital Laser & Skin Care’s gentle laser hair removal treatments are suitable for practically any area of the body, including sensitive regions, such as under arms and bikini area. Laser hair removal is most effective for people with dark hair because it contains a large amount of pigment. It will still work on those with lighter hair types, but patients may require more maintenance.

Why Opt for Laser Hair Removal Over Other Methods?

While there are some other hair removal methods (such as waxing, shaving and epilating), laser hair removal offers some unique benefits. For instance, laser hair removal can keep skin smooth in the target area for substantially longer than the next-best option. Results often persist for years.

Laser hair removal also inactivates hair growth at the follicle. So unlike shaving or waxing, there is no risk of in-grown hairs.

Many patients choose laser hair removal because it saves them time and money. Once patients complete a laser hair removal course, they no longer have to spend money on hair removal products or spend extra time in the bathroom using them.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Most people can benefit from laser hair removal treatment at Capital Laser & Skin Care. Good candidates are patients with light skin and dark hair follicles. However, new laser hair removal techniques can target red, blonde and gray hairs effectively, even if you have darker skin.

I was very happy with the service at capital laser and skin care for cool sculpting on my arms. All the staff is very professional and made my treatment comfortable. The results from the first treatment motivated me to lose more weight and lead a healthier lifestyle. It almost felt like a spa day, highly recommended.
