What is Kybella?
Kybella is a minimally-invasive, non-surgical method of destroying submental (under the jaw) fat cells. It does so through a series of injections applied by trained, skilled dermatologists. The injectable consists of deoxycholic acid, a molecule found naturally in the body. When injected, the molecule aids in the breakdown of fat cells in the target area.
How Is Kybella Different From Other Treatments?
Kybella is unique in that it isn’t surgical and as a result, requires very little downtime. The procedure is ideal for those who aren’t quite ready for surgical measures or can’t undergo surgery due to medical reasons or a busy schedule. And unlike some other treatments, Kybella can kill those fat cells for good.
What Are Treatments Like?
Treatments are convenient, in-office procedures. Your specialist will inject Kybella under the jaw into the target areas. Multiple treatments may be needed, spaced no more than a month apart. The treatments themselves take about 20-minutes once prepped with many patients opting to undergo treatments in between errands or on their lunch breaks.
Is There Any Downtime?
Because the treatment is non-surgical, there is little downtime. Aside from post-procedural swelling and slight discomfort, side effects are minimal with the most common being swelling, numbness, firmness and bruising. Aftercare is minimal and the healing process is quick. For specific aftercare instructions, check with your dermatologist.
When Will I See Results?
Kybella injections work to break down fat cells over time. Results will take a little bit of time with gradual improvement becoming visible after the first few weeks. Depending on your goals, you may require more than one treatment.
